Four things every generic Dubrovnik itinerary gets wrong
Dubrovnik is one of the most beautiful walled cities on earth — and one of the most overtouristed. Timing and logistics are everything, and generic AI consistently ignores both.
It ignores the cruise ship problem completely
Dubrovnik receives up to 8,000 cruise passengers per day in peak season (May–September). They disembark from 9am and fill the Old Town by 10:30am. The City Walls, Stradun, and Pile Gate become genuinely impassable. Generic AI schedules these for "morning visits" without specifying that morning means before 8:30am or after 5pm when ships depart.
It underestimates the City Walls heat
The 2 km City Walls circuit has no shade. In July–August at 1pm the stone radiates at 42°C. Generic AI recommends the Walls as a daytime highlight with no heat warning. Go at opening (8am) or in the last two hours before closing (6pm). Bring 1.5 litres of water and finish before 10am in summer.
It misses the island day trips completely
Dubrovnik sits 45 minutes from Hvar, 35 minutes from Korčula, and 20 minutes from the Elaphiti Islands by ferry or speedboat. A generic itinerary treats Dubrovnik as self-contained when the surrounding Adriatic is a spectacular part of the trip. Hvar Town has the best nightlife in Croatia; Korčula has better food and fewer crowds.
It treats Game of Thrones filming as the main draw
Dubrovnik was used as King's Landing and the city actively markets this. Most generic AI itineraries include a Game of Thrones walking tour as a must-do. The real draw is the medieval architecture, the sea-swimming from rocks below the walls, and the restaurant scene on Od Sigurate. The GoT tour is a bonus, not the point.
The Dubrovnik prompt — copy and use
This prompt forces cruise-window timing, 8am City Walls logic, island day trips, and Adriatic swimming spots. See the difference before you copy.

💡 Pro tip: Add your travel dates — if July or August, the cruise ship timing section of the prompt becomes critical to structure your entire day.
